Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane Visits Scottsdale Pen

On Saturday, November 26, 2011 Scottsdale's Mayor Jim Lane visited Scottsdale Pen. He arrived just after 10am with entourage in tow, his main purpose to purchase a pen to sign a proclamation for Small Business Saturday.

With cameras rolling, or clicking, the Mayor spent some time chatting with us about his background, which included working in his father's pen factory. They made pens for the education trade. He grew up in New Jersey and graduated from St. Joe's in Philly, whereas Karen and I graduated from Temple, another of the "Big Five" schools. How interesting that we had such strong common connections!

A good time was had by all, but his visit was brief as he was off to Southbridge for the Small Business Saturday events. Scottsdale was one of only fifteen cities across the U.S. that American Express sponsored for this occasion due to the concentration of small, privately owned shops in the area. Scottsdale Pen was pleased to have been included in the event in such a personal way and was mentioned in the Mayor's speech during the official launch of the event.
